Destiny 2 hits new Crucible player record after Bungie disables SBMM
That’s twice the amount of people playing Strikes, Nightfall, Raids, or Gambit. For comparison, if we look back at July of , the PVP population was k, less than half of what it is today. So while there was an increase, it should also be considered that this is a new season where everybody is trying to hit the new max power level.
Especially now that skill-based matchmaking has been turned off. For most events in Destiny 2, I like to play solo. But as a competitive player with a paltry 0.
Iron Banner got its first run in Season of Arrivals and we have a couple new weapons, a short quest and some matchmaking to talk about as.
Along with new and returning loot, the popular PvP mode changed its matchmaking system, to great effect. It was even dubbed “Iron Lagger” by some players due to how bad connection could get during the chaotic 6v6 matches. Since Destiny 2 uses a hybrid of client-server and peer-to-peer connection systems, players don’t simply connect to the best server in their vicinity.
Every match, a host player is chosen and every other player connects to that host. If the host has lackluster internet, so does the entire lobby. Player numbers spiked this week, and the current Iron Banner has become the most popular Destiny 2 has ever witnessed. It remains to be seen whether the high population can be maintained.
They need to bring back skill based matchmaking
All players also earn increased Valor in the Crucible this week! Reminder: Skill-based matchmaking has been disabled in Iron Banner this Season. Info from TWAB:. The event will work similar to last Season with a few new rewards.
To celebrate the first Iron Banner of the season, I would like to remind everyone that Effie is Best Girl™, Saladin got tossed off the top of a mountain, and that.

Contents: Destiny 2 Blind Well matchmaking bug requires slow walking Destiny reports. The better players like it without because they get more kills when people who aren’t as good are matched with them. Not having that option available means a big portion of Destiny players don’t play PVP at all. Everyone should have fun in Destiny.
There is no reason we can’t have both, or another viable option for casual players. They were upset that only got the Redrix Claymore, but now only about 35, will get Luna’s Howl.
You’ll earn each piece through different stages of the quest, alongside a special Iron Banner weapon. Interestingly, skill-based matchmaking.
Yesterday was the beginning of the first Iron Banner of Season 11, and with it I decided to start my grind once again on my least favorite character. It had been a few seasons since I last participated in Iron Banner, but when I last did it involved a quest line that required you to do a bunch of weapon based kill quests on each character.
I figured I would devote last night to trying to get the Hunter through the quest and then work on the Warlock and Titan on following evenings. However it turns out that has all changed and there is now a single simple quest that involves killing 25 folks with sidearms and another 25 with auto rifles. The reward for this is getting the new seasonal copy of an auto rifle and a sidearm. While the old quests were a bit of a slog, it was nice because you wound up with a full set of armor and a random roll for each individual weapon that would be dropping.
This felt pretty good because if you got a shitty drop on one character you might get an amazing drop when you get over to the next character. Example right now I have gotten a single drop of The Forward Path and it is truly heinous. Essentially it is an auto rifle without any range or impact with all of the stability and handling you could ever want which seems extremely bad. For the side arm I got what feels like a thoroughly mediocre roll.
I am still not entirely certain I like playing with side arms, but I most definitely do not like playing with anything that looks this stupid.
Bungie Responds to Destiny Matchmaking Issues With a Lag-Based Trial
On June 11, the Destiny developers made a big call for their long-standing title. They flipped the switch on skill based-matchmaking, which has been one of the most controversial topics in gaming over the past few years. There were a few reasons Bungie decided to remove the unpopular feature from all but their most competitive PvP modes. A few more people were playing Destiny in general, sure, but that always happens when a new season begins. Others came back amid the growing hype for Beyond Light too.
Destiny is to introduce private matches for the first time when new expansion Rise of Iron releases later this year. Revealed as part of Bungie’s gamescom stream, it allows players to create their own custom matches, from one-on-one battles to player-created tournaments. Options seem to be pretty wide-ranging – you can select the game type, map and its time of day, various score and time limits, and whether vehicles will appear on selected maps. You can also select whether Light Level is active, meaning gear will have a greater impact during play, similar to activities Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris.
You’ll be able to earn rewards, too. While only Rare gear will drop – and items such as the Exotic-giving Three of Coins won’t work – you will earn Crucible Reputation for completed matches, as well as progress made towards Daily Crucible Bounties and Gunsmith weapons. Private matches will also support player-created tournaments, with Bungie opening the door to allowing cash prizes “in some instances”.
As part of that, they’re also finally adding the much-requested ability to allow players to view their Clan roster in-game as well. All Destiny owners will be able to create and play in Custom matches later this year – though only those with Rise of Iron will be able to select the latest maps and modes. Bungie also confirmed that a total of three new maps will be coming in Rise of Iron – Last Exit, Floating Gardens and Skyline – as well as the previously confirmed PS4 exclusive map, Icarus.
The stream also revealed a few new details about the expansion’s new Strike and Raid – so be wary of some light spoilers. The Wretched Eye Strike is available once the main story is over, and culminates in a boss battle against a Fallen Captain who has attached the eye of an Ogre to his weapon for extra firepower.
Said Ogre is also blind, and is charging around the arena trying to get you, so expect to take them both down at once.

Iron Banner, or as it is correctly known, Iron Banana, is an oddity. Three completely unwinnable games that the event’s matchmaking decided.
For the first time in the recently launches season 3 of Destiny 2 , Lord Saladin has returned to the Tower to begin a new edition of the Iron Banner. Along with plenty of new loot to acquire , Iron Banner season 3 also introduces a new ranking system where players can unlock new loot from Saladin by increasing their standing with him. For solo players however, the updated Iron Banner experience appears to be less than rewarding.
Taking to Twitter to discuss Iron Banner feedback, Destiny 2 Crucible lead, Derek Carroll, confirmed that the matchmaking isn’t behaving quite as most people expect. While fireteams are having little difficulty, solo players are getting overlooked when matching opponents, meaning that these players are getting put up against coordinated teams, rather than other solo individuals. More often than not, the end result is solo players getting crushed or losing matches more consistently. We’ve heard your feedback about solo players getting wrecked by teams in Iron Banner, and can confirm that solos in Iron Banner do not get the benefit of our FTMM system yet.
We’re running the numbers for 6v6 and plan to roll out an adjustment before the end of this event. Part of the issue is that solo players are not the beneficiaries of Bungie’s planned Fireteam Matchmaking update. Introduced last month, FTMM is an under-the-hood update which attempts to level the playing field for solo players who are matched up with well-coordinated teams in the Crucible. Essentially, instead of using a normal skill value for fireteams, Bungie instead uses a modified value that takes the fireteam size into account.
The larger the team, the larger the potential modification. That’s not the only issue the Iron Banner is facing however. Earlier this week, a new exotic emote called Salute of the Lords was added to Tess’s Eververse stock.
